Sausage, Cheese and Pasta Mashup | Rutherford County Moms

Easy Sausage, Cheese & Pasta Mashup

I admit, I am a disaster in the kitchen. OK, maybe disaster is too strong a word. But let’s just say I won’t be winning an award for anything cooking related anytime soon.

If you’re like me, or even if you’re not but you like trying new recipes, I have a fast and easy one for ya! It is a mashup I threw together one night that has become one of my go-to recipes. My kids LOVE it and that’s a win in my book. Plus, it’s so simple to make and it’s relatively healthy. Basically, it’s every mom’s dream. What’s also great is that you can easily customize the recipe by swapping out different ingredients or adding in new ones. Here’s what I used and how I make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. mild ground Italian sausage
  • pasta (use as much or as little as you prefer)
  • shredded cheese (also use however much you like)

I’ve been trying to use healthier ingredients lately and I discovered these two veggie pastas that have gone over well with my kids. Of course, you can use any pasta of your choosing. I decided to mix the two because each box was about half full, but you can use any pasta (or pastas) that you want.

Also, I like the Italian sausage because it already has some seasoning in it, but this would also work with ground beef or turkey. You could season it on your own as well. Same goes for the cheese. I used a Mexican blend, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any kind of cheese. That’s why I love this recipe – you can mix it up for some variety and still not go wrong!

Instructions

  1. Brown the Italian sausage; drain
  2. While cooking the sausage, boil pasta; drain
  3. Add pasta to the sausage and mix
  4. Top with shredded cheese and mix

That’s it! It’s so quick and easy! This fed both of my children (ages 6 and 4) and me (we had plenty left over), but could easily feed a family of five. I can’t imagine any child complaining about this because it’s so good. My 4-year-old had four plates of this the other night, and she’s a picky eater. That should tell you all you need to know!

Have you made a similar recipe before? Let me know in the comments what you (and your kiddos) think if you try this one!
