Meet-a-Mom: The Lip Expert Mompreneur Sara Happ

She’s known as “The Lip Expert” because of the successful beauty brand she launched that focuses on all things lips. It started over a decade ago, when Sara began experimenting in her kitchen with ingredients to create a lip scrub. Today, she’s a prominent entrepreneur in the beauty industry whose product line has since expanded to include several additional lip products.

But Sara Happ is also a devoted mom to a sweet daughter. As with most mompreneurs, Sara finds it challenging to balance work life and motherhood. She recently opened up more about life as a mom and business owner. Her dedication to both her company and her daughter is inspiring and we loved having her share how she spends her days at home in southern California when she’s not taking on the world as a total #bossbabe.

For those who are not familiar with the Sara Happ brand, what is it?

A luxury lip care company that I started in 2005 with the first ever Lip Scrub. We focus 100% on lips, and are now available at Ulta, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, and more with our best selling Lip Slip One Luxe Balm and treatment products such as the Sweet Clay Lip Mask and Dream Slip, a night cream for your lips.

How many children do you have?

One daughter who is five years old.

What’s your favorite thing to do together in your town?

We live in Manhattan Beach, so walking down to the ocean with my little girl and having a beach day in the sand by our pier is my go-to. I never take our proximity to the Pacific for granted.

What are some of your favorite local hot spots?

We have this old school pancake house called Uncle Bill’s, which makes the most delicious omelets (and of course pancakes) on earth. Not exactly a hot spot, but it’s so yummy and unique to our little town. I get my highlights done at Hush downtown, and dash across the street most weekends to Becker’s Bakery, home of the best cupcakes in Manhattan Beach.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

That I don’t watch television. Any of it. I stream CNN, but other than that, I read and soak in a bubble bath nightly.

If you could sum up motherhood in one word, what would it be?

Motherhood is… HEART-AWAKENING

What’s the most surprising or unexpected part of being a mom that you’ve experienced?

How much I genuinely enjoy being with my little girl and how much she changes, daily. She makes life so incredibly fun. She’s such a character, and most definitely her own little human. She’s got much of her dad and much of me in her, but she’s a true original, and she makes me laugh more than anyone on earth.

If you could leave your daughter with one lesson about life, what would it be?

That love wins. Kindness wins. And that all will be well.

How has motherhood guided you in other areas of your life?

Motherhood is my north star in all areas of my life. Every decision I make comes with my little girl top of mind. My focus, whether in my work life or my personal life, is always her, first and foremost.
